INFANTILISATION/INFANTILIZACIÓN

(b) Infantilisation: the authority is also used for producing a relationship between the instructor and the participant as the one there normally exists between parents and expected results. This is the way in which infantilisation must very frequently originate in the suggestive process. Sometimes, infantilisation develops without an external motive due to the internal inspiration stemming from, for example, an idea. The higher the inspiration of the moment and the non-directed authority, the greater the development of infantilisation will be. This Lozanovian concept has nothing to do with the term “infantilism.” In the Suggestological sense, it is a universal reaction of respect, inspiration, and confidence that considerably increases perception, memorisation, and creative imagination. It is well known that a child can memorise much more information than an adult. For a child, each new concept reveals new worlds. With increasing age, the functions of memory and imagination’s flight start losing their significance in proportion to the growth of reasoning, which helps the human being to logically understand connections, interrelationships, and laws of nature and society. The effort of developing the power of reasoning results in the decrease and delay of the development of memory, emotions, and imagination. Simultaneously, in phylogenetic and ontogenic aspects, a social standard is apparently established not only because of the importance of memory functions, but also because of its capacities. This way, imperceptibly, a suggestive conviction about the average level of human memory has been established. This suggestive standard is the one to be removed in the suggestological courses. Therefore, a process of de-suggestion, rather than one of suggestion, takes place in these courses. By means of infantilisation, perception of anything given in the programme becomes, almost in the full sense of the word, pleasant and emotional – all this, it is clear, according to Lozanov. The participants, be it individually or in group, have an increasing feeling of confidence, which also facilitates overcoming the intuitive-affective anti-suggestive barrier. If the suggestive effect is in harmony with the ethical barrier, favourable conditions to create a process of de-suggestion and suggestion will increase. Well-driven infantilisation is a favourable basis by means of which the de-suggestive-suggestive process must be developed. One of the ways to achieve a specific degree of infantilisation in the Suggestological Method, besides a serene attitude towards the teaching/learning process, is the role-playing, which is frequently used. At the beginning of the typical course, each participant is given a new name, one which is used in the language he is going to learn. He is also given a new history of his life. This approach, according to Lozanov, creates a comedy situation which liberates the participants in the course from their social positions. Also, according to Lozanov, it facilitates the rapid suppression of anti-suggestive barriers, which, for its part, stimulates spontaneity and the immediate expression of his abilities. These role-playing situations supposedly suppress the existing Set in a person and create a new one closer to the Set of a child.
